Overall, MDF has become a popular material for professional speaker cabinets thanks to its stable acoustic performance and ease of processing—but when used, it’s important to address moisture resistance and weight concerns specifically.
Splint features:
It has high structural strength, superior moisture resistance compared to MDF, a relatively moderate weight, unique resonance characteristics, slightly poorer acoustic uniformity, higher processing costs, and slightly inferior surface smoothness.
Overall, plywood is better suited for professional speakers with high demands on structural strength and moisture resistance—such as outdoor performance cabinets or heavy-duty monitor boxes—but careful craftsmanship is needed to address any shortcomings in acoustic uniformity.
